It's an easy drive from Irvine the 5 to the 99 - about an hour before Fresno is the Sequoia Kings Canyon Exit - in Fresno is one of the Yosemite exits. At Sequoia you will probably need to stay at the lodge or in a campesite other accomodations are far away. Be sure to climb Morro Rock. It's just a trail and rock carved stairs but the view from 5,000 ft up into the desert is WOW!

At Yosemite you probably need to stay outside the park. most places are booked early you might get lucky. there are numerous places in Oakhurst.

Check www.cheap-fun-family-travel.com for the exact trip in 4-5 days
References :
Check out Yahoo Maps, driving directions. It will give you mileage and travel time between any two points.
Have fun!
