Where should I surf in Australia?
Posted by admin
I am from California and I’m lookin to head to OZ to catch some good surf. I am not sure weather I should stay to the South of NSW or head up to Queensland and hit the Gold Coast. I’m looking to score fun long rides preferably in the 8ft or under range.
Can anyone recommend what region I should go to? I will be there between Dec 25 – Jan. 10.
Other Q’s
**************************
1. Are there many places to camp near the coast or hostels to stay at?
2. Is the Sydney New Years Eve Celebration awesome?
Bondi Beach in Sydney
You should go to Sydney between DEC 25-JAN 10
The NYE Celebrations in Sydney are fantastic but you should get there early to get a good spot to see the bridge it is the center of the show.
Along the coast you will find plenty of cheap backpakers and hostels any were. Have fun when you are Sydney

Most of the time The Goldcoast and the 40 kilometre stretch down to Snapper Rocks on the NSW border have great waves. We hold Championships here and its not very often the waves are small. This year the waves have been a surfies dream more often than not. Narrow neck near Main beach, Burleigh and Snapper rocks are very popular. But most of the beaches have surfies along this stretch. There is a lot of backpackers on the coast and tourist parks for camping

the gold coast is absolute crap. for the best surf NSW is better, or victoria and SA have some awesome surf beaches, they are just not as touristy. NYE in Sydney is good if you can get into a good gig, pub or rave if you’re into that kind of thing, but I wouldn’t recommend sitting in town all night for the fireworks.
