Where should I go in California?
Posted by admin
I am planning a solo trip to California this summer. I’d like to stay at a hostel if possible as I am trying to keep costs down. I’m leaning towards San Francisco right now but want to keep researching. What city should I visit for the best experience? I’ve heard that San Diego is beautiful, but what is there to do? L.A. just seems to very overwhelming. Thanks.
I had been in California x 6 months last year. I started with San Francisco. I love San Francisco but the cost of living is too high. Though, you can live here without having any car. Even residents dont bring their cars since parking is expensive. While there, hope you had taken a round trip of the BART! It will go to the Contra Costa County like Concord, Pittsburgh, Antioch, La Fayette, etc. Dont forget to go to Daly City and the wine counties like Napa and Sonoma! There is a trip there in San Francisco going there.
From San Francisco, i stayed x 1 month in Concord at my cousin’s place then off to San Diego x 2months. I also went to LA, El Centro, Simi Valley and Camarillo.
San Diego is so spread out unlike San Francisco! I had bought 2maps before my trip and both were incomplete. I bought a 3rd complete one but too small to be read by the naked eye! You need a magnifying lens. I had only appreciated the totality of San Diego after riding all the trolleys. There are bus stations at most trolley stations. Hop in and out! Better park your car well, my friend parked his car at Ralphs in National City and as surprised to see his car with broken glasses when he came back. She and her wife were having their laundry done when a Mexican suddenly snatched her bag.
Did you know that the Coronado bridge is one of the tallest bridge not only in the USA but also in the world? It won an award due to its magnificent structure. See the spectacular and breathtaking view it offers. Hotel del Coronado is not also one of the best in the USA but also in the world.
See the theme parks, San Diego Zoo, Sea World and The Wild Animal Park. See their websites if they have an ongoing promo if you go to the 3 themeparks. Ask if the bottomless drinks is still available, we did refill it throughout the day when we were there and it serves also as a souvenir! Dont forget to go to these theme parks when they open up. There are show which are scheduled at San Diego Zoo.
Oceanside and Harbor has nice views. I had seen Oceanside when I ride the Greyhound and Amtrak going to LA. I advice that you try both rides but Amtrak will be better.
I suggest that you look up at Yahoo travel and see other cities in the USA. See also San Diego by going to travel guides and seeing its bottompage where the top 10 popular attractions and their websites are seen! The upper most part of the page shows a slideshow of the place.
I love San Diego better. Once you come from San Francisco then to San Diego! You will find LA too hot, too congested and feel as if you are going to have a headache specially this season! I experienced the worst traffic there during the spring breaks. You wont be enjoying Disneyland, California Adventure, Universal Studios during this Spring break, everybody comes by families and you will have to line up for prolonged periods of time.
Go to the last American exit at San Ysidro! There is an outlet store there.
I suggest that you see the beautiful view of Malibu! It is great! But you have pass by the traffic of LA. If you really want to go to LA, leave early!

Depends on your personality, go to:
San Francisco – If you like refreshing weather, beautiful hills and architecture. It’s sort of a hippy alternative crowd feel.
Los Angeles – If you like excitement and warm weather. This is the best place to go if you want to hang out on the beach and visit hollywood. It’s sort of a mainstream crowd feel.
San Diego – If you want a low-key and warm weather vacation. The town sort of has a mexicali vibe. The main things to do are go to the beach and seaworld. It’s sort of a family town feel.
Hope this helps, they are really all great in their own way. I’d say rent a car and go to all 3 haha.

San Diego is beautiful, but my vote goes for San Fransisco. S.F. is awesome too, but in a different way. There is a great hostel across the Golden Gate Bridge from S.F…. close enough to the city but far away from the crowded streets at night. Its in Marin Headlands. There is a ton to do in S.F. too,
see a giants game, go to pier 39, girhadelli chocolate, cable cars, coit tower, alcatraz, tours of the bay, the golden gate bridge, chinatown… there is so much to do, and it osn’t budget breaking, especially if you stay in a hostel!
hope this helps!

it sounds like most people think southern calif would be good. i live in nor cal and sonoma, or mendocino is great. mendo is beatuiful with the redwoods and ocean. gas is expensive so driving up the coast is probably out but it is beautiful and worth it. anywhere in calif is expensive, nor cal is best if you don’t want a crowd. alot of small coastal towns with very cool shops to look in or to buy in. bodgea bay is cool also on coast…about 1 hr west of sonoma…good luck.. look online to house share or stuff like that in …………….peace out.
