What are ways to find housing during the summer if you’re interning in a city?
Posted by admin
I am looking at internships in NYC and Chicago, but I live in California. I want to possibly rent an apartment, or some type of housing for two-three months in the summer so I can work at nonprofits in the area… Is this possible? Do youth hostels generally allow you to live there for a couple months? I definitely don’t want to rent a hotel for two-three months.
Also, how can I fund this? Are there scholarships for this?
Try a college campus. They may have empty space.

I’m not aware of any scholarships, but some of the universities in NYC open up the student dorms during the summer for rental/internships. They are not glamorous, but cheap, close to subways and safe.

Look in ads, Craigslist, etc. for a sublet. Many students leave for a semester (a period of 3-4 months) to study abroad and need to get rid of their apartments. This is really common, and if you scout out classified ads for awhile, then you might be able to get a good deal on an apartment. This is because students need to get rid of their apartment before traveling and are generally willing to lower the price if there are no offers.
