Where can I get the best deals on airfare/hotel packages for the Virgin Islands?

Posted by admin

My boyfriend and I want to spend a week in January down there. All we want is a hotel on the beach, where we can relax and bum around, and see sights when we feel like it. We are poor college students, so we want to save as much as possible without ending up in a gross hotel.

Any ideas? Any other destinations that may be cheaper?

I would do my research on line but I would also check with my local travel agency for any deals out there. They have the contacts with the airlines that on line websites don’t have.

Dominican Republic and Riviera Maya, Mexico have the best rates on all-inclusive resorts.

I would check these sites for deals and prices before checking with a TA so you have an idea on your destination and cost.

In my many years of traveling I have found booking land and air together saves $$$.

If you really are set on the Virgin Islands, many tourists rent villas/condos/houses and you can save money by having some meals in (breakfast and lunch) Happy hour on your terrace. Liquor in not expensive in the Virgin Islands. Here is a link to research.

Go to this site and do a search under vacation packages u.s. and do air and hotel together then read about the hotels on trip advisor to get reviews from people who have just been. Check often and during midweek since alot of the prices will be going down again because school is starting back up. Dominican can be pretty cheap Punta Cana has whiter beaches than Puerto Plata but Puerto Plata is usually cheaper .Good luck and happy travels

I would look into an all inclusive hotel. The virgin islands are by no means cheap.

We went in April and booked through bookit.com. They had the best rate on the resort we wanted (Wyndham). We didn’t do the package deal with them because it was cheaper to get the flight tickets directly through the airline. However, when we returned, there was a fee charged by the wyndham for a fee from bookit.com. When I read my confirmation page there it was in small print. It wasn’t a lot of money and I think that it still worked out cheaper then booking it another way. Other online reservation sites might also do the same. I’m not sure, but it’s something to check before you book.

For the airline tickets I went to kayak.com – they search several airlines for the best rates. They found tickets with american airlines for the best rate. I then went to american airline’s website and got an even better deal. Keep checking throughout the week as the rates do change.
